Top 22 Scariest Glitches in Games

Here is a list of the top 22 scariest glitches in games presented by Tats Tops Videos. Enjoy :)

22) Zoo Tycoon - Ghost Animals

Ghosts are a false rumor going around the Zoo Tycoon 2 fanbase. According to the rumor, when your animals die, they turn into ghosts. No evidence has been found of this, a search of the files has revealed nothing, and all reports of "ghosts" can be explained as glitches or lies.

21) Pokemon - MissingNo

MissingNO, is a Pokémon species found in the video games Pokémon Red and Blue. Standing for "Missing Number", MissingNo. Pokémon are used as error handlers by game developer Game Freak; they appear when the game attempts to access data for a nonexistent Pokémon species. Due to the programming of three in-game events, players can encounter MissingNo. via a glitch. The species was first documented by Nintendo in the May 1999 issue of Nintendo Power.

Encountering MissingNo. causes graphical errors and the mass replication of the sixth item in the player's item menu; the latter effect resulted in the glitch's coverage by strategy guides and game magazines. IGN has noted MissingNo.'s appearance in Pokémon Red and Blue as one of the most famous video game glitches. Fans of the series have attempted to rationalize MissingNo. as part of the games' canon, and sociologists have studied its impact on players.

20) Mirrors Edge - Pedestrians

After level glitching the street level, players would stumble upon a group of tall, low-poly pedestrians with blurred textures. The models would look okay, if not for the strange faces, uncontrollable spinning and somewhat dark appearances. This glitch only happens if the player attempts to manipulate the games' mechanics in some way.

19) Luigi's Mansion - Luigi's Shadow Hangs Himself

According to an urban legend that keeps popping up in the always-reliable gaming message boards, if you go to a certain room (go to the attic and then don't press anything), stand in a specific spot and wait for lightning to strike, you can see what looks like Luigi's shadow hanging from the ceiling. As if he had just committed suicide.

There's some debate about what it actually is: Some say it's a glitch, while others claim the game was originally meant to be much darker and this is one of the many leftovers from the beta version.

18) FIFA - Faces

Most FIFA games suffered from really creepy facial expressions. Especially when a lot of animations were present. These expressions were extremely common during online games.

17) Goldeneye 64 - Model Spasms

The hardware was so delicate, that tilting or nudging the cartridge while it was playing could wreck all manners of havoc in the game. If the cartridge was tilted, characters would start spinning uncontrollably. The internet meme "Geddan" was made famous because of this glitch.

16) Fallout: New Vegas - Intro

Some early copies of the game resulted in a strange glitch where the characters heads starts turning in a creepy manner.

15) Resident Evil (remake) - Stretched Characters

The remake saw a rare bug upon starting up, where all characters and enemies appeared stretched and distorted. This bug was said to be the cause of corrupted data or the disc being dirty.

14) Witcher - Geralt's Face

Witcher had a lot of bugs prevalent in the game, but one of the creepiest is when Geralt's face distorts. The character remains fully functional and is usually fixed when the player switches areas or reloading a save file.

13) Hitman: Blood Money - Corpses

On some levels, you may see corpses on the floor. Some of them start chasing after the player. It's not known what causes the glitch, but some speculate that the enemy files are corrupted due to frequent loads.

12) Bully: Scholarship Edition - Shaking Characters

When a person grapples someone else, and the player throws a firecracker at them, it usually always results in a glitch where characters start shaking uncontrollably.

11) Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Model Deformity

This glitch came about when fans decided to hack the copies of the game and perform what is known as move set swaps. Changing character's moves sets  rearranges the models as well with horrific deformities.

10) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Ghost Cars

If you ventured out into the heavy country side away from the city, you'll find cars with no drivers running around. Some will even chase you as if they're possessed by spirits.

09) Call of Duty 2 - Dead NPCs

Throughout the COD series there have been glitches with corpses, from silent talking faces to strange animations and postures. Many important NPCs with specific lines of dialogue will spawn and in the case of these war games, die quickly before they can even speak. So the game thinks they're still alive when they shouldn't be, creating some creepy moments.

08) Battlefield 3 - Giant Soldier

The early versions of the game had some disturbing character glitches with some models. Certain characters would appear extremely large and deformed. This would often frightened players. The glitch has since been patched.

07) Red Dead Redemption - Manimals

While wondering around the game's vast deserts, the player may come across something unsettling. Characters would fly around the sky like birds, cougarmen would charge at you like zombies, and the snakeman which is a deformed man with his head and torso twisted, facing towards the player with glaring eyes. Fans call them manimals. These were horrifying, bizarre, human animal hybrids.

06) F.E.A.R. 2 - Alma Glitch

In the very first level exists a glitch where Alma would silently stalk the player without vanishing. It is not known what causes the glitch.

05) Sherlock Holmes - Creepy Watson

In the game, the player can switch between Sherlock and Watson at any time. Players needed to make sure that the characters were always in close proximity. The developers never made any walking animations for Watson, so with unintentional results, this ended up teleporting Watson which would freak out players.

04) Skyrim - Living Mannequins of Riften Honeyside Manor

When a player entered the Honeyside Manor basement, they would see mannequins, which enabled players to place armor on them. It was soon discovered that the more they visited the house, the more disturbing things became. The mannequins would appear in different positions from where they would supposed to be. Some would even start to walk around the house, and the armor placed would become invisible. They would also act like a normal person looking at the player and move their heads.

03) Sims 3 - Demon Babies & Demon Pets

Babies and pets seem to turn into deformed monstrosities. This glitch happens when you download custom content into the game. It is also due to missing animations. It can be fixed by patching the game.

02) Left 4 Dead 2 - Jocky Face

One gamer found a horrifying glitch, where the textures from one of the monsters (the jocky) of the game was replaced with the back of a truck.

01) Fallout 3 - Gibs

Apparently, this is a glitch where you kill someone, save your game, then come back. The game thinks that characters should look like masses of body parts and sometimes it forgets to tell those parts to scatter. The characters go back to default positions and have conversations with the player.

Bunny Man: Lost Souls

Bunny Man: Lost Souls - Indie Horror Game

Based on the Bunny Man urban legend, Bunny Man: Lost Souls is a horror game created by a Brazilian developer. Taking some lessons from the blockbuster freeware game Slender, this is a creepy ride through a small forest and the famous Bunny Man Bridge, also known as the Colchester Overpass. Legend says the Bunny Man is a man wearing a bunny suit and attacks people with an axe.

The aim of the game is to rescue the lost souls of Bunny Man victims by passing through them (and hearing the spooky shriek they make along the way). To navigate in the nearly complete darkness you only have the aid of twenty matches, so use them well. The Bunny Man acts pretty much like the Slender Man, by suddenly appearing from nowhere and ultimately ending the game – supposedly by killing you and adding you to his roll of victims, but there’s no attack animation, just a slight bob from the Bunny Man.

Dark Ocean

Dark Ocean - Indie Horror Game

Dark Ocean is a freeware PC game from a team of independent Spanish developers of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. The game is a survival horror set in a luxury cruise where things have gone terribly wrong. Dark Ocean seems to get inspiration from games such as Hydrophobia, Amnesia and even Resident Evil.

The player steps in the shoes of Liz, a young engineer who helped design the ship herself, where an infection turned everyone into zombies. Now Liz has to fight for her life, using weapons such as a flare gun to prevent the undead from attacking. Cleverly using the resources at our disposal in the ship will help us defeat the zombies. A camera will help blind the enemies for a short while and earn precious time to act. Dark Ocean is not only about action, it’s also about solving puzzles to access previously locked areas, such as a casino.

Don't Look Now

Don’t Look Now - Indie Horror Game

This is just a representation of your disturbed mind and you have to navigate from the lower parts of the building up to the top, hopefully to be healed or set free. But this journey has many dangers, such as the monsters in your head which will freeze and pull you towards them, eventually killing you.

You have to collect the pieces of your mind, meaning glowing orbs in some trees, which will be used to unlock some doors and keep you moving forward.

Forget Me Not Annie

Forget Me Not Annie - Indie Horror Puzzle Game

Forget Me Not Annie is a free first person horror puzzle game with an atmosphere that fans of the popular Amnesia will surely enjoy. This is another game designed by students (Brandon Dolinski and his team) and those tend to be both original and of high quality. Using the Unreal Engine, the graphics are the first thing that jumps to the eye, being incredibly moody and unsettling.

The story is capable of giving you chills. Playing as the unfortunate 15 year-old Annie, we have to solve several puzzles in a twisted psychiatric hospital (or is it?), trying to make sense of the strange happenings and apparitions while keeping sane and escaping the doctor’s intentions. Annie has the help of Howard the Bear, a supposedly fluffy creature that helps her to move around. Top 45 Scariest Easter Eggs in Games - pt. 3

Here is part 3 of Top 45 Scariest Easter eggs in Games by Tats Top Videos. Decided to write down the list since the effect on the narrator’s voice is quite irritating and seems to get in the way of some of the easter eggs scenes, especially the ones having to do with sounds. You can find part 1 here & part 2 here.

19) Silent Hill 4 - Hauntings Within the Room

Depending on the actions the player took, several hauntings would appear in the room. The most common ones include chatters, bleeding walls, ghosts emerging from the walls, shadows and strange noises. If the player looked through one of the cracks in the wall, they will see Robbie the Rabbit staring back at them.

18) Bioshock Infinite - Possession Voice

At one point during BioShock Infinite, you gain a vigor called Possession. The scene where this occurs is evocative and eerie, and the audio that plays at the time is partially to blame. If you play that eerie audio backwards (listen), it becomes even creepier: you can understand what's being said. The text comes from one of the scenes of Romeo & Juliet.

"Come, gentle night, come, loving, black-browed night,
Give me my Romeo. And when I shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."

17) Fatal Frame II - Idle

If players went idle for several minutes, the screen would static slightly, showing the face of a child or an adult. The game gives no indication or clue as to who the faces belong to.

16) Eternal Darkness - Hidden Sanity Effects

As the player is seen by monsters, their sanity meter depletes, the lower the meter the more increased the effects become. These come in varieties, sometimes affecting the screen, character or environment. One creepy moment occurs when you attempt to save your game, a message will say, "Would you like to delete all your saved files?" Even if you say no, the saved files will be "deleted".

15) F.E.A.R. - Hidden Alma Sighting

In the abandoned hospital, Alma can be seen briefly if the player pushes a set of blocked double doors several times. She then disappears, and her voice is heard yelling "I hate you, Daddy!".

14) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Ghosts Voices

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, in map Sanctuary, player can hear a ghostly voices saying "Hehe, look at me, daddy! Hehe!", "Don't get too close to the road, sweetie", "Hehehehehe.", and "Sarah, don't go too far!" The voices are sound clips taken from Davis Family Vacation. This is only time when ghosts appear in Modern Warfare 3.

13) Call of Duty: Finest Hour - Ghostly Room

The Ghostly Room is an easter egg found in Call of Duty: Finest Hour in the level called Underground Passage. Once going down the spiral staircase at the beginning, there would be a large room with German soldiers in it, along with a passage to a larger tunnel on the right. Going into this larger area would spawn more Germans. On the right side of the tunnel there is a door that appears to be unopenable, with a medpack next to it.

To open the door, throw two grenades at it, then go up to it and press the action button. No action icon will appear. Throw another grenade at it and it would be blown open. Go down a narrow tunnel which enemies and your squadmates will not be able to enter if they co-exist with each other.

If all the Germans are killed, the squadmates will follow. At the end, is the Ghostly Room which is built in a circular shape. There appears to be no ceiling, only candles floating in mid-air. On the ground is a small Sherman tank rolling around. A small P-51 Mustang will be flying among the candles.

A toilet is on the right, a chair with the Kaiser bear will be sitting, and in the center will be a cradle with the coveted Sticky bear laying at the foot of it. At first, the cradle appears to be empty, but upon going up to it and looking inside it, the ghost of a young boy appears to be sitting in it. Hitting the action button when near him will make him get out and walk in mid air, posing as a soldier.

He doesn't seem to acknowledge that the player is there, and gives a blank stare the whole time. The entire room also appears to be lined with strange pictures, and near the stairs descending into it there is a Browning .30 cal machine gun and an MG42, along with an over-sized rat sitting in a cage under the stairs.

12) F.E.A.R. 3 - Possessed Teddy Bear

A hidden easter egg that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, you will come across many teddy bears throughout the Suburbs level. Some will just be sat and stored on shelves, but there was one hidden in a room that was possessed. It had glowing red eyes and sometimes if you stared at it long enough, you end up taking damage for unknown reasons. When you look back at the bear, it is back to normal.

11) Batman: Arkham City - Scarecrow's Boat

Find the boat in the Industrial District by the set of cranes. Glide onto it and go to the hatch at the end of the boat. This may take a few tries, but you need to stand in the right spot with your cryptographic sequencer to crack the code to open the hatch. This is a max difficulty security code to crack.

Once the hatch is successfully open, you can go inside. You'll see roaches crawling everywhere, an invoice to Johnathan Crane a.k.a the Scarecrow, and a tied up thug. Make sure you zoom in on the thug with your camera. Also, his mask can be found on top of the drawbridge just to the right of the boat's secret hatch!

10) Hitman: Contracts - Ghosts

You can find the ghost in six different locations in the mission Traditions of the Trade. To find the hallway where the ghost is located, go to the hallway on the right of the ground level and keep on walking until you see a door with a sign on it saying "Wing Closed", either pick the lock of this door or open it with the Master Key. After you have opened the door then go left and open the double doors. Once you walk through the doorway you will be in a scary gray hallway.

There are five rooms down this hallway, and the ghost is in all five, and you can also find him walking through a door at the end of the hallway if you look closely.

  • The 1st location is in room 106. He is in the bathroom mirror and waves to you.
  • The 2nd ghost is in room 107.
  • The 3rd location is when he is walking through the door of room 108
  • The 4th is inside room 108. There is a policeman in there and he runs off (kill him if you wish to go inside). Then look in the mirror and there's the ghost again for the 5th time.
  • The 6th location is around the corner and you will see a dead body on the floor where you can get a shotgun. The ghost is in the bathroom.

09) Red Dead Redemption - Tumbleweed

In the Tumbleweed church, the words "THE DEVIL HAS GOT INTO THAT BEAST" are scrawled on the top of the altar. Speculation on fan forums say it refers to the scrawny black horse that often spawns around Tumbleweed, oddly hitched when there is no one around, while others think this is a reference to the Dark Horse. It could also refer to the barking that comes from the graveyard despite there not being a dog anywhere in sight.

08) Grand Theft Auto IV - Growling Noises, Haunted Baby Stroller, Heart of Happiness

Growling Noises, are considered a rare phenomena that is said to occur inside the abandoned Alderney Casino and beach areas at night. The growls are said to be similar to that of a lion/dog, which is strange because there are no animals in GTA IV besides flying rats and seagulls. Others say that the growls come from a ghost that resides inside the Casino. The only possible explanation for the growls is the echoing sound of flying rats, thunder from a storm, or it could be one of the hobos who lives and sleeps in the Old Casino. Players said that they also heard random metal rumbling, ghost whispering and the sounds of a door knob.

Underneath the Dukes Expressway, there is a small baby stroller sitting upright on the ground. It's placement could be a reference to children in the game. The stroller is a static entity, and it is not scripted to be pushed by any pedestrian. Players claim that the stroller is haunted because it sometimes seems to move by itself. This may be the result of a spawn glitch. Also, players say that if you shoot at the stroller, a little girl's voice can be heard saying "Mommy".

The Heart Of Liberty City is a gigantic beating heart located inside of the Statue of Happiness. It is held up with chains, and there appear to be various arteries and veins going from the heart to the statue's exterior. The heart is large and beating, and shooting at it or throwing explosives at it will not trigger any response.

07) Gears of War: Judgement - Library Ghosts

In the One-Shot room located above the Breechshot spawn, a player can throw a grenade up into the rafters to knock loose a painting which will fall on the wall opposite to the room entrance. Next to the portrait, there is a small scrap of paper that can only be destroyed via Snub Pistol. Once the paper is destroyed, a small orb will appear on the cog located on the painting wall.

Small papers identical to the first one will then appear near all the paintings on the map; destroying a paper will change the nearby portrait into something gruesome (a skeleton or a man shot in the head) and will desaturate the map of color. Once all eight of the papers are destroyed (one is located in the closed off area behind the Longshot spawn; another is on the alter next to the Incendiary spawn), you can return to the One-Shot room and find the cog fully-lit with all eight glowing orbs. Approaching the painting will cause a Reaper to phase out of it, scour through a book and return back into the painting.

Shooting the painting will teleport you to a secret tomb, where you have to fight the Reaper on a one-on-one duel. The Reaper's health far exceeds any standard multiplayer character and spawns with two random weapons every time you enter the room. While killing the Reaper does not reward you with the unique medal or weapon skin set, it does count as one kill towards your score and can sometimes drops a Booshka, which is the only way of getting it on Library by standard means. If you fail to kill the Reaper, you will die and the Reaper will utter a creepy, map-wide echo saying "Free me!".

This easter egg can only be done in Free-For-All.

06) Yume Nikki - Uboa

During Chapter 4, the Patient finds himself in a hallway where several Shadows will appear. At the end of this hall, the Patient may stumble upon an empty room with a button that seems to do nothing. If the Patient repeatedly presses said button, Uboa will eventually appear in the center of the room with an unnerving music track playing in the background. If the Patient gets too close to Uboa, he will be teleported outside of the room, and the door will be locked.

05) Condemned: Criminal Origins - Bart's Department Store, St. Joseph's School

Bart's Department Store is a location featured in Condemned: Criminal Origins. It is an abandoned department store infested with enemies posing as mannequins. It also serves as a crack-den and a squat, and is linked to Burnback Alley. When the player enters the store and stares at the first mannequin to the right, the mannequin's head will turn slowly towards the direction of the player. When the player walks away from the mannequin, it whispers "Hey." When the player turns around, it's head will be completely turned.

In St. Joseph's Secondary School, once players go into the changing rooms, the area turns sinister and evil. Doors lock or open by themselves, lights exploding and lockers opening on their own. When the player wanders through a door and  they attempted to go back, doors will violently close with unexplainable reasons. The level doesn't mention the area being haunted.

04) Mortal Kombat 9 - Krypt Scare

The Krypt Monster is a beastly creature in the Krypt in Mortal Kombat (2011). It randomly pops up for one second, screaming at the player before disappearing. Footsteps can be heard getting louder than usual before its appearance. It is there to frighten the player, which unfortunately causes some players to be less willing to return to the Krypt.

03) Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Mob of the Dead Face

When on the roof where the plane is assembled, the player can activate a "jump scare" Easter egg. The player is required to have a sniper rifle, such as the Barrett M82A1 or the DSR 50, and they must proceed to the far end of the roof, to the left of the runway. If the player scopes in on the firework display in the distance, a distorted picture of what appears to be Russman's face will flash up on the screen for a split second, accompanied by a high-pitched scream.

02) Doom 3 - Hidden Face, The Mirror, Hidden Messages, Whispering Voices

When you start Doom 3 and wait, you will be given an intro with some text about  the UAC. Near the end, for a split second, a zombie/skeleton face with 1 eye missing and a wide open mouth will appear on the planet.

In the bathroom of the first few levels, if you stare at a mirror, eventually it takes over the screen and shows the game character aging rapidly with freaky background.

In the first few levels you will encounter rooms with the pentagram symbol on the floor surrounded by candles where a demon will spawn from. The rooms have keypads to get into them but the doors are open already and the keypad is broken. The keypad will blink red. If you look closely you will see text saying something like enter security code. Since the pad is broken it blinks a lot. When it blinks the text quickly changes and says something like "Hell will kill you" you have to be very quick to see it but after looking at it for a minute you will see it.

In the first bathroom you can enter, if you go to the last cubicle and stand in the corner, you can hear whispers.

01) Gameboy Camera - Vandalised Faces

The Game Boy Camera was a weird accessory to begin with: It allowed you to take small, grainy photos with your Game Boy, which could then be printed out into small, grainy stickers if you hooked it up to the Game Boy Printer.

But what made it downright bizarre was the creepy messages hidden through it. The system came loaded with several mini-games and image editing features, among which was a "Run" option. Every kid who ever owned a Game Boy Camera was terrified to accidentally select Run from the menu, because if he did, the system would freeze for a moment and show one of three vandalized faces accompanied by the phrase "WHO ARE YOU RUNNING FROM?" and this sound.
