The Unknown

The Unknown - Indie Horror Game

"The Unknown is a procedurally generated horror game made by a one-man team. Each playthrough is different and is only limited by the amount of content I could make in 48 hours, so I encourage you to play through it a few times to really see everything and get the full effect. It’s meant to be very replayable. Due to the nature of the game, sometimes you’ll get an easier playthrough than others."

The Stanley Parable

The Stanley Parable - Indie Sim Game

The Stanley Parable is a simple game about storytelling. You will be told a story and then you will be asked to make a choice, except that the choice will not matter. No, sorry, my mistake, the choice matters a great deal. Or maybe...is it that the story doesn't matter? Wait, let me check my notes...

Yes, it says right here. “The Stanley Parable: A simple game about story that makes perfect sense.” Surely that's what it is. I hope. Oh good god I hope that's what The Stanley Parable is. It's just that sometimes I'm so confused, I'm so lost...what is this game? I just want to understand. I don't want to feel alone. Please...can you help me understand what's going on?

Knock Knock - Indie Horror/Action/Adventure Game

There is an unusual cabin deep in the woods. It had served as a laboratory and a dwelling for three generations of Lodgers. But as of late the latest Lodger has been noticing weird changes in familiar surroundings; things are missing, noises and rattle heard. Something odd is coming out of the woods. Come night, it seems like someone’s made himself at home in the twilight of rooms, attics, and cellars.

You need to stay awake and sane till dawn. The Lodger is wandering the rooms, evading the unknown, counting minutes till morning. But it’s only in the night that he can solve the main puzzle and find the answers. What’s going on? Are the Guests real, or are they just figments of his insomniac imagination? What’d happened to the forest? What’s happening to the cabin? Is there a line between reality and imagination?

Bunny Man: Lost Souls

Bunny Man: Lost Souls - Indie Horror Game

Based on the Bunny Man urban legend, Bunny Man: Lost Souls is a horror game created by a Brazilian developer. Taking some lessons from the blockbuster freeware game Slender, this is a creepy ride through a small forest and the famous Bunny Man Bridge, also known as the Colchester Overpass. Legend says the Bunny Man is a man wearing a bunny suit and attacks people with an axe.

The aim of the game is to rescue the lost souls of Bunny Man victims by passing through them (and hearing the spooky shriek they make along the way). To navigate in the nearly complete darkness you only have the aid of twenty matches, so use them well. The Bunny Man acts pretty much like the Slender Man, by suddenly appearing from nowhere and ultimately ending the game – supposedly by killing you and adding you to his roll of victims, but there’s no attack animation, just a slight bob from the Bunny Man.

Dark Ocean

Dark Ocean - Indie Horror Game

Dark Ocean is a freeware PC game from a team of independent Spanish developers of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. The game is a survival horror set in a luxury cruise where things have gone terribly wrong. Dark Ocean seems to get inspiration from games such as Hydrophobia, Amnesia and even Resident Evil.

The player steps in the shoes of Liz, a young engineer who helped design the ship herself, where an infection turned everyone into zombies. Now Liz has to fight for her life, using weapons such as a flare gun to prevent the undead from attacking. Cleverly using the resources at our disposal in the ship will help us defeat the zombies. A camera will help blind the enemies for a short while and earn precious time to act. Dark Ocean is not only about action, it’s also about solving puzzles to access previously locked areas, such as a casino.

Don't Look Now

Don’t Look Now - Indie Horror Game

Don’t Look Now is the rare kind of horror game that tries to be much more than that. The concept is very original, as well as the setting. You play as a schizophrenic that his caught inside her own deranged mind and the game world is a large building appropriately titled the Maze of Pain and Fear. This is just a representation of your disturbed mind and you have to navigate from the lower parts of the building up to the top, hopefully to be healed or set free. But this journey has many dangers, such as the monsters in your head which will freeze and pull you towards them, eventually killing you.

You have to collect the pieces of your mind, meaning glowing orbs in some trees, which will be used to unlock some doors and keep you moving forward.

Forget Me Not Annie

Forget Me Not Annie - Indie Horror Puzzle Game

Forget Me Not Annie is a free first person horror puzzle game with an atmosphere that fans of the popular Amnesia will surely enjoy. This is another game designed by students (Brandon Dolinski and his team) and those tend to be both original and of high quality. Using the Unreal Engine, the graphics are the first thing that jumps to the eye, being incredibly moody and unsettling.

The story is capable of giving you chills. Playing as the unfortunate 15 year-old Annie, we have to solve several puzzles in a twisted psychiatric hospital (or is it?), trying to make sense of the strange happenings and apparitions while keeping sane and escaping the doctor’s intentions. Annie has the help of Howard the Bear, a supposedly fluffy creature that helps her to move around. Annie isn’t a normal girl – in fact she has the power of telekinesis and the ability to swap locations with Howard.

Curse of the Aztecs is a horror-puzzle video game in which you must sink into the dangerous depths of the ancient Aztec civilization.

You play as Marshall Sullivan, a brilliant archaeologist who specialises in Aztec culture. Your long-time rival, Charles Galloway, has recently discovered the biggest find in archaeological history: the lost temple of the Aztecs.

The legends speak of this mysterious temple as Montezuma’s final resting place, and a monument to the Gods. Obviously though, these are nothing more then myths and stories. You believe it to be your obligation as a man of science to prove Galloway wrong and confront him at the temple he has found.

However, as you enter the temple and it’s doors begin to shut behind you, you realise there may be more to these myths then you had previously thought…

Motte Island

Motte Island - Indie Survival Horror Game

A brother in a plot to save his sister from dark forces… or what it seems to be… Motte Island is a horror-themed game. Considering that it is a top-down camera game, the horror genre of it makes it very rare. The storyline is well-thought and unique and exciting.
