Review:

It has an interesting story and beautifully colored scenes, but the gameplay is just too slow. It took me about a couple of minutes just to get done with one location and so on. I really did like that there was hardly any backtracking in this game. I think most games should be this way since backtracking can be a drag and just plain annoying. The puzzles featured here were fairly simple and easy. Not too many hidden object scenes and the few that were included were silhouette (finding the item that matches the shadow). It seems like a good game…I honestly didn't enjoy it because of the slow pace so I uninstalled it…but it’s definitely worth a try.

Review:

Infected is a hidden-object game about a virus breakout in a small town, where in the end the goverment decides that it’s better off to nuke the place in order to ‘kill’ it. Sounds familiar? I know, it’s very Resident Evil inspired, minus the zombies and mutant creatures. Anyways…I liked this game. Pretty much enjoyed it and the hidden object scenes were way different than in other games I have played. The idea is to find the items to unlock other items on the list (i.e. find a crowbar to open a box that contains a hose). Even though it was confusing and a little bit annoying, it was still fun since it was different. Another thing I like about this game is the fact that you can choose custom settings at the beginning: general difficulty, hint meter fill up, puzzle difficulties, etc. The voice acting could have been a little better though and the music is so repetitive that it ended up being annoying. I just wanted to get through the next scene just to get rid of the music, only to have it happen over again. There’s hardly any backtracking, so that’s another plus. Highly recommend this game and !SPOILER! the ending is just heartbreaking, however there seems to be a sequel to the game. Enjoy.

OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP
CPU: 2.0 GHz
RAM: 512 MB
DirectX: 9+
Video: 128 MB
Hard drive: 172 MB

Review:

You play the role of either a male or female character (you get to choose this at the beginning of the game) who is summoned to Mortlake Mansion by a mystery man who calls himself R. Said mystery man is obsessed with magic and dedicated his whole life to this but accidently traps himself within the mansion. So of course he needs your help to escape. Not only is this a hidden-object game but it’s also happens to be full of puzzle-solving and logic. The graphics are clean, simple and cartoonish-looking with beautiful colors. The storyline is quite interesting and it was a pretty cool experience. Even with this, it was not a game meant for me as I found it quite boring at times to the point it turned into a drag. It is, however, a very good game and I recommend it.

The Book of Desires Review

The Book of Desires - {ROBIN GAMES} - {DOWNLOAD}

Ashley had a nightmare that she got into a strange world of Book of Desires.When she wakes up she realizes it was just a nightmare, but the reality turns out to be not less scary. Explore the world of Book of Desires and help Ashley to come out of it alive.

System Requirements:

OS: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7
Processor speed: 1500 MHZ
RAM: 512 MB
Hard drive space (uncompressed): 200 MB
Graphics Card: any DirectX 8 compatible
Sound Card: any
DirectX version: 9.0

Review:

The Book of Desires is a hidden-object game with a major emphasis on puzzle-solving. The world of The Book of Desires exists entirely within the dreams of a little girl who got upset when she saw her parents argue. On her way to school the next day, she’s given a magic book by a mysterious bookstore owner who says that whatever she writes in it will come true. Before she goes to bed that night, she writes in the book a wish that her parents never fought. This appears to confound the book, which is possessed by evil magic and doesn't know what to do with a benevolent wish. So the game is basically a long quest to extract your soul from the book. Although the art and graphics are beautiful, some locations are difficult to maneuver in. On the other hand, puzzles are obtuse. It’s a pretty good game, but it has no replay value whatsoever. It’s more of a one-time-play type of game.

Living Legends: Ice Rose Review

Living Legends: Ice Rose - Collector’s Edition - {BIGFISH} - {DOWNLOAD}

Novelist Edward Grand has found evidence of a terrible tragedy in the city of Rosemount and sets off to investigate in Living Legends: Ice Rose! Help Edward gather information for his new book and explore the Castle of Ice Queen in this incredible Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game. Scour the frozen landscapes and thaw out important locations as you solve an intriguing mystery in Living Legends: Ice Rose!

System Requirements:

OS: Windows XP/Vista/Win7
CPU: 1.0 GHz
RAM: 512 MB
DirectX: 8.1
Hard Drive: 585 MB

Review:

 In Living Legends: Ice Rose, you play a young woman determined to save her gullible beau from becoming the latest of this icy enchantress’s willing thralls. The story behind this game is somewhat typical, seemingly ripped right from the pages of a book of fairy tales. We’re not given a ton of insight into who the Ice Witch is, or why she wants to turn the world into one big block of ice; we just know that she’s bad news, and if she manages to find all the pieces of a rare magic mirror, the world as we know it is doomed. While still a beautiful game with amazing graphics and art, I felt like the story was not intriguing enough to keep me interested in the game. After a while, playing it became more of a chore then a hobby and it bored me. All of the backtracking to be done is also annoying. The hidden object scenes are not very original and it’s repetitive. They are also very hard to look at since items will be scaled to various sizes. Everywhere you go, you encounter locks of various types that coincidentally enough, are always missing some pieces. Your job is then to go forth, find the pieces, unlock the lock, and move another four feet, in order to complete the next incomplete locking mechanism. This is one game that you do not want to complete in one day nor replay it again. Even with that, I enjoyed it and played it to the end.

Secrets of the Dark: Eclipse Mountain Review

Secrets of the Dark: Eclipse Mountain Collector’s Edition - {BIGFISH} - {DOWNLOAD}

Save your friend from the Demon of Darkness in Secrets of the Dark: Eclipse Mountain! Follow clues left by stone monks in a deserted town in Thailand to uncover a thrilling mystery. Battle the dark and magical werecreatures that want to sacrifice your friend in this macabre hidden object puzzle adventure game!

System Requirements:

OS: Windows XP/Vista/Win7
CPU: 1.0 GHz
RAM: 1024 MB
DirectX: 8.0
Hard Drive: 667 MB

Review:

At the start of Eclipse Mountain, you’re off on another international adventure with a buddy of yours, this time to visit some picturesque ruins in Thailand. Your plan is to investigate a local legend about a petrified demon, but you’ve hardly set foot in the demon’s village when your traveling companion is taken by a savage were-creature-thingie. The plot seems good, but that’s not the case. I found the storyline to be completely boring. Though the rest of the game makes up for this fault. The Eastern setting, the beautiful art, the relaxing music make the gameplay wonderful. The hidden object scenes were also fun to do, as it switches from the ordinary hidden object to misplaced items (here you have to place the items in your inventory in the correct location). It was something different from other HOGs. The puzzles were very unique as well. My only complaint is the ridiculous amount of backtracking you have to do. Also, I had to use the strategy guide a couple of times just to advance through an objective. All in all, the game is amazing.

Criminal Minds Review

Criminal Minds - {BIGFISH} -  {DOWNLOAD}

Join the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI to solve a series of shocking crimes in this thrilling hidden object, adventure game based on the hit TV series, Criminal Minds. As a member of an elite team of criminal profilers, you scour crime scenes for clues, interview witnesses and suspects, and carefully analyze evidence to catch the culprits. In the first case (A Dying Art), the BAU must find a serial killer on the loose in a college town before the body count rises further. Focus on the criminal, not the crime, to pinpoint the predators’ motivations and anticipate their next move!

System Requirements:
  • OS: Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7
  • CPU: 1.8 GHz
  • RAM: 128 MB
  • DirectX: 9.0
  • Hard Drive: 179 MB

Review:

Like most episodes of a police procedural, each of the two cases opens with an omniscient glimpse of the murder that the agents must solve. Once you solve the first case in Austin, TX, the second case in Seattle, WA, is unlocked. Unique to Criminal Minds, the show and the game, is how the agents come together to share knowledge and evidence to build a criminal profile for the UNSUB. Once they understand the criminal’s behavior, they can guess his next move and solve the case. The narrative is great and interesting, that’s a thumbs up since it kept me on the edge of my seat. The mechanics are dated but solid: hidden-object scenes, I-spy scenes, familiar puzzles, etc. The hidden-object scenes are borderline junk pile, but they are interactive, offering two levels of challenge. Some items are nested, so you’ll have to open drawers or search other objects in the scene, and some item names are scrambled. You must find the question marks in the scene to “decode” the object name. The question marks also function as a hint recharge, so one can employ them strategically. This game was fun and interesting. Some flaws here and there, but I still enjoyed it.
